Berlin is a prominent state as well as the capital city of Germany. It is located in the northeastern Germany. The city has astonishing history. Successively, it was the capital of the kingdom of Prussia, the German Empire, the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich. During the time period of 1961-1989; the city had seen the Berlin Wall. But, in 1990 the city again reunified and regained the status of the capital of Germany. Now Berlin Germany was the prominent centre of European politics, culture, media and science. Primarily, the service sector, encompassing a diverse range of creative industries, media corporations, environmental services, congress and convention venues are strongly boosting the economy of Berlin city. Traffic engineering, optoelectronics, IT, vehicle manufacturing, health care, biomedical engineering, and biotechnology are few other flourishing industries in the city.
Geographically, the city is located in an area with marshy terrain. It has temperate/mesothermal climate. The mean annual temperature remains 9.4°C (48.9 °F). Politically, it is divided into twelve boroughs (Bezirke). Again, these Boroughs are subdivided into a number of localities (Ortsteile). Each Borough is governed by Borough Council (Bezirksamt). There are five councilors (Bezirksstadträte) and a Borough Mayor (Bezirksbürgermeister) in the council. It is elected by Borough Assembly (Bezirksverordnetenversammlung).
The city is home of headquarters of several television and radio stations; international, national as well as regional. Name of few prominent commercial broadcasters are MTV Europe, VIVA, TVB, FAB, N24 and Sat.1. Two major publishing houses in Berlin Germany are Walter de Gruyter and Springer. The city provides good education systems. It is home of four universities and numerous private, professional and technical colleges. Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, and the Technische Universität Berlin are the names of there most prominent university of Berlin.
The city is also popular amongst youngsters due to its lively and vibrant nightlife. Beside nightclubs and discotheques; the city offers numerous historical sites and museums. There are approximately 153 museums in the Berlin. For instances; the Gemäldegalerie is famous for the paintings of old masters from the period of 13th to 18th centuries.
